Dehiwala is Colombo's closest beach suburb, an urban shoreline on the Galle Road corridor that runs south from the city towards Mount Lavinia. The beach here is an everyday, working stretch of sand: local families, joggers and evening strollers dominate, and it is one of the few places in the Colombo metro where the city meets the sea directly. The setting is unglamorous, with the busy suburb, railway line and city lights behind the sand, but it has a genuine, lived-in character.
