Kandakuliya is a small fishing village on the seaward side of the Kalpitiya peninsula, roughly 6 km south of Kalpitiya town. Its beach is a quiet, windswept stretch of sand with a scatter of guesthouses, kite schools and beachfront resorts rather than any real resort strip. The village lives by fishing, and life moves at a rural pace: at night, sea turtles reportedly come ashore to lay eggs on the deserted beach, and lodges in the area arrange turtle-watching walks. By day, kite-surfing schools teach from the beach, and simple restaurants serve local seafood. The water follows the west-coast pattern, calmest from December to April, and the swimmable, surf-friendly Kudawa stretch lies just to the south.
