Wadduwa Beach
About Wadduwa
Wadduwa is a classic west-coast resort town roughly 31 km south of Colombo, where a long, sandy beach is lined for much of its length with hotels, guesthouses and villa properties. It is one of the most convenient beach bases on the island - the Galle Road runs straight through town, and the accommodation strip is dense enough that options from budget guesthouses to five-star resorts like Turyaa Kalutara sit within a short walk of the sand. The Blue Water, designed by architect Geoffrey Bawa, is the town's heritage showpiece. The sea is calm to moderate in the dry season, which together with the easy access makes Wadduwa popular with families and short-stay visitors. Hotel-front restaurants and beach vendors give the shore a relaxed, busy-in-season atmosphere without the party scene of beaches further south.

Reviews
Wadduwa is the pick of this batch for a fuss-free family or short-stay beach holiday: an easy drive from Colombo, a genuinely long sandy beach, and accommodation from guesthouses to a Geoffrey Bawa-designed heritage hotel. Go between November and April for the calmest water, and make time for a sundowner at The Blue Water - the most memorable sight on this stretch of coast.
