Dalawella is a compact, palm-fringed beach on the A2 road about 2-3 km south of Unawatuna, fronting a shallow lagoon protected by a substantial offshore reef. The reef acts as a natural breakwater, leaving remarkably calm, crystal-clear water that feels safe even for young children, especially in the morning at low tide. Wild sea turtles appear most days, and locals offer seaweed for gentle feeding at a respectful distance. Dalawella's signature is a rope swing hanging from a leaning palm in front of the Dream Cabana guesthouse - a favourite photo spot for about 500 LKR. A small cluster of cafes serves wood-fired seafood, sunbeds line the sand, and a localized reef break near Frog Rock draws surfers. Less developed and considerably quieter than Unawatuna, it suits families, photographers and anyone after a relaxed day out.

Dalawella is Unawatuna's calmer neighbour - a reef-sheltered lagoon that is excellent for children, with daily turtle sightings and the famous rope swing for the golden hour. Come in the morning at low tide for the calmest water, and carry cash, as there are no ATMs on the beach.
