Hiriketiya Beach
About Hiriketiya
Hiriketiya is a compact horseshoe bay a few kilometres off the A2 at Dikwella, and the most photogenic stretch of sand on this part of the south coast. Turquoise water wraps a crescent of palm-lined beach, while a reef below the surface shapes a consistent surf break that suits beginners taking lessons through to intermediate surfers chasing lefts and rights. The village behind the bay has grown into a small hub of boutique guesthouses, surf schools and hip cafes - Salt House Cafe among the best known - and yoga classes run on the sand and in the studios above it. Locals call it Hiri, and its fame has spread: high season brings noticeable crowds to the bay. There is no beachfront highway; the water is sheltered for swimming on calm days, though surfers own the line-up in swell season.

Reviews
Hiriketiya is the south coast's most beautiful small bay - turquoise, palm-fringed and with a genuinely good surf break on its doorstep. It has become deservedly popular, so go in the shoulder season or early morning for the calm, uncrowded version.
