About Peanut Farm

Peanut Farm is a small, jungle-fringed cove a short drive south of Arugam Bay, named for the abandoned peanut farm that once stood here. Golden sand hugs a protected bay backed by thick forest, with the beach running south toward Elephant Rock. It is one of the area's favourite surf spots: a gentle inside break regarded as ideal for learners, plus a bigger outside break for more advanced surfers. When the swell is small, the sheltered bay is calm enough for swimming. The scene is remote and low-key - a small surf camp on site, cows and dogs on the sand, and elephants and crocodiles known to roam the surrounding bush. Access is down a rough dirt track, about five minutes' drive from Arugam Bay town.

  • Small golden-sand cove framed by jungle, south of Arugam Bay
  • Two breaks: beginner-friendly inside wave and bigger outside break
  • Calm, protected bay - good for swimming when the swell is small
  • Small surf camp on site; otherwise very little infrastructure
  • Elephants and crocodiles roam the surrounding jungle
  • Reached down a rough dirt track by scooter or tuktuk
  • The old peanut-farm name has stuck to the beach

Peanut Farm is the best of both worlds near Arugam Bay - a calm, jungle-framed cove for swimming and chilling, with a genuinely learner-friendly surf break when you want waves. Come May-October, carry your own supplies, and treat the wild surroundings with respect.
