Pottuvil Point Beach
About Pottuvil Point
Pottuvil Point is a classic right-hand point break at the northern end of the Arugam Bay sandbar, off the town of Pottuvil. A long, mostly undeveloped sandy beach runs up to a boulder-strewn headland where the wave peels along a sand-bottomed point; on a good swell, rides can stretch close to 200 metres, making it one of the longest and most enjoyable waves on this coast for intermediate-to-advanced surfers. The lineup is far less crowded and chiller than Arugam Bay's Main Point, with space to carve and even the chance of a wave to yourself. It works almost exclusively in the east-coast dry season, peaking from June to August on mid-size south swells. This is a surfer's break, not a swimming beach: currents are strong and the take-off is rocky.

Reviews
Pottuvil Point is Arugam Bay's answer to long, uncrowded right-handers: a proper point break with near-200-metre rides that rewards intermediate and advanced surfers. Go in June-August for the best swell, paddle out early to beat the peak-season crowd, and pair it with Whisky Point next door.
