Talpe Beach
About Talpe
Talpe (often spelled Thalpe) is a quiet village beach between Unawatuna and Koggala, about 5 km east of Galle. The shore forms a mild curved bay of roughly 1.5 km, with pale golden to grey-toned sand, low coconut plantations and only scattered guesthouses - no big hotels, no nightlife. The sea stays fairly settled for much of the dry season, with a gently sloping seabed that makes bathing easy, and fishermen's tide pools carved into the reef offer shallow, calm bathing at low tide. Boutique villas and small hotels such as The Owl and the Pussycat and Era Beach sit right on the sand, and beachside cafes like Wijaya Beach Cafe (famous for pizza and turtles) serve the day. Well-known surf breaks are a short hop away at Kabalana, Ahangama and Dewata. It suits travellers who want an uncrowded, low-key base close to Galle Fort.

Reviews
Talpe is for travellers who want the south-coast beach experience without the crowds - calm water, tide pools and boutique villas on a genuinely quiet stretch of sand. It works well as a relaxed base, with Galle Fort 20 minutes away and the surf of Kabalana and Ahangama nearby. Come in the dry season and time the tide pools for low tide.
